STARTOGEL – Since the implementation of large scale societal restrictions (PSBB) as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, bicycles have once again gained popularity among the general people. Folding bikes emerged as the most popular primary model in Indonesia between March and June 2020, according to the findings of an investigation done by iPrice Indonesia.
In a research released on Saturday, 18/7, Dea Devita, Senior Content Marketing Executive at iPrice Indonesia, stated that “from March 1 to June 21, 2020, search interest (search on Google) for folding bikes increased by 900 percent.”
The second most popular sport is the mountain biking. Between March 1 and June 21, 2020, there was a 680% rise in mountain bike searches. Meanwhile, since March 1, the number of searches for children’s bicycles has increased, placing them in third place. At just 142%, the gain is not particularly noteworthy.
With a 300 percent rise in search interest between March and June 2020, road bikes and racing bikes were ranked last.
“Bicycle keyword searches increased the most on June 21 due to the introduction of Car Free Day (CFD) for the first time since the PSBB took place,” Dea said.
It is estimated that 18,813 people rode CFD on that particular day. On June 28, 2020, the following week, Indonesians began searching for bikes to get ready for CFDs.
There were only 90,500 searches for folding bikes in early March 2020, according to data gathered by the search interest keyword. After rising by 82% to 165,000 in April, search interest levelled down in May and hasn’t increased since.
The folding bike term saw a strong rise in search interest in June 2020. With a total of 673,000, the rise is 644 percent from March 2020.
“This is consistent with the growing volume of social media updates from friends who ride bikes. “In addition to sports and fitness gear, folding bikes also provide an alternate form of land transportation in the city,” Dea remarked.
West Java (19.4%), Central Java (17.7%), and DKI Jakarta (16.7%) are the provinces with the highest folding bike keyword searches. The majority of them—92.4%—access through mobile platforms, with desktops coming in second at 7% and tablets at 0.6%.
